my favourite things / this awesome God

this awesome God

He stooped
to pick me up
out of miry clay

my feet stand firm
because of Him

He once took clay
and shaped me

as man Adam

and woman Eve

He made me
in His image

And it was good

Now He stoops
to the pit
where we all made our home
and draws us out
wipes clay from our eyes
unstops our ears
tills the soil in our hearts

by His touch
we come to Life

now I see the Son

His brightness
gives breath
and
release
from drudgery

Now Peace
wraps each day
each moment

a song
lights my heart
and His Joy
bubbles
and makes
me
   dance...

this awesome God

my favourite things

  2. Oh Susan I love how you recant the birth of each Christian and especially this awesome truth "Now Peace wraps each day - each moment." Yes. We don't know peace until we come to Him who is Peace.
Bless you and your gift of gorgeous words,
    Felecia

    1. Felicia, it is such a completeness to rest in his Peace... though the storms rage, we are safe in Him. I am so blessed you also know this!

    1. It is funny you say that about simple words...
As a child our gardener and close family friend would send us letters from his amazing journeys to distant lands. They were filled with flambouyant words and descriptions of each and every flower he saw. Words as I had never heard and my dad's comment was always he wished he would write so we could all understand the amazing beauty he saw. I've never forgotten that, and though my dad has passed on, in a way I write for him. I want him to understand my heart...simply... to see God's heart...truly

    1. Working with clay and using a potter's wheel has truly made alive this story of Redemption by the Potter for me...
It also brings alive how God formed us out of clay... facinating to imagine His gracious hands at work seeing us even before we were formed and knowing us... As an artist I understand the act of knowing something in completeness and then fashioning it from the heart... Oh the very heart of God.

I can see my husband's family removing the unbaked ceramic figures from the molds before baking them in the hot hot kilns. Before baking, the figurines were wiped, tooled and scraped to smoothness so there would be no seams or stray lines of slip that would be a permanent part of the piece once baked. I had never thought of all this before in relation to the creation. Your poem made the whole potter/clay process so much more real to me.

    Love it, Susan!

    1. Oh Dawn, have you ever heard the story of the Potter by Phillip Keller? I must find it for you on tape if you don't know it... As a 19 year old it completely remade me!
